Care and Maintenance

GENERAL CARE

  • Avoid scourers and abrasives, as they will damage the surface.
  • Don’t cut on the Laminex laminate surface.
  • Keep waxes and polishes away as they dull the natural shine.
  • Do not use strongly acidic, alkaline cleaners or bleach for normal cleaning, as these might etch the surface.

STREAKS

Occasionally, dark-coloured surfaces may exhibit streaky marks following cleaning. You can use all-purposes cleaners such as Windex spray cleaner or Ajax Spray n Wipe to effectively eliminate these marks. With just a simple application, you can bid farewell to streaks and enjoy a flawlessly clean surface once again.

GREASE

Say goodbye to greasy marks by creating a solution of mild dishwashing detergent and water. Gently dab the mixture onto the greasy marks, allowing it to sit for a short while. Then, wipe away the residue, revealing a clean surface. For the finishing touch, give it an extra shine with all-purpose cleaners like Windex spray cleaner or Ajax Spray n Wipe.

SPILLS

Rest assured, Laminex laminate surfaces are highly resistant to stains caused by the majority of common household chemicals. However, in the event of an accidental spill, swift action is crucial. It is important to promptly wipe away substances such as beetroot, grape and berry juices, first aid preparations, concentrated bleach, oven cleaners, dishwasher detergents, artificial dyes, hair colouring, and solvent-based pen ink. Furthermore, it is imperative to immediately remove specialty glues like Super Glue using acetone (nail polish remover). By following these proactive measures, you can ensure the long-lasting beauty and durability of your Laminex laminate surfaces.

STAINS

When faced with a stubborn stain that doesn’t respond to Extra Strength Windex, we recommend a couple of alternative methods. First, try using methylated spirits or dab the stain with a diluted bleach mixture (1 part bleach to 8 parts water). Allow the solution to sit for 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water and dry. Complete the process by applying Extra Strength Windex for that extra shine. However, it’s important to note that these approaches should only be used as a last resort, as they carry the risk of causing irreparable damage to the laminate surface. If the stain persists, as a final option, attempt 2 or 3 gentle rubs with a crème cleanser or white toothpaste. Remember to wash and dry the surface afterward.

SCRATCHES

Laminex laminate surfaces are designed to withstand everyday use, but it’s important to take precautions to prevent damage. While normal wear and tear is expected, scratches can occur when utensils, knives, or unglazed pottery are used directly on the surface. Keep in mind that darker colours are more susceptible to showing scratches compared to lighter colours. Additionally, it’s worth noting that dark colours and high gloss surfaces typically require more careful maintenance than lighter or lower gloss options. To minimise the risk of scratching, it’s recommended to always place and lift objects from the surface rather than dragging or sliding them across. By following these simple guidelines, you can help preserve the beauty of your Laminex laminate surfaces and extend their lifespan.
